Find A Natural Alternative To Your Sports Drink
How many times have you guys heard that you need the newest pre-workout, workout, and post-workout drink in order to optimize your routine?
Most gyms and supermarkets are stocked with the colorful and tasty “pumping” drinks and vitamin-fortified waters. But what do we actually get out of the sports drinks that Americans spent $5.4 billion on last year?
The reality is, most of the people who consume sports drinks don’t need them, and are simply dumping excessive grams of unnecessary sugar into their bodies. Being a long-distance runner, I do crave for that carbohydrate and electrolyte boost during my half-marathon trainings, that many of those sports drinks provide. However, even on those 10+ mile runs, most sports drinks simply have too many chemicals to go along with that sugar.
Here is a Natural Sports Drink Reciepe that you can try making at home:
- 1 quart of liquid (options: green tea, herbal teas, coconut water
, plain water, etc)
- 1/8-1/4 tsp Himalayan Pink Sea Salt
(try to stick to Himalayan, as the regular doesn’t have all the trace minerals)
- 1/4 cup lime/lemon juice (you can do any other juice too, but it will have more sugar than the lime/lemon)
- 1-2 TBSP sweetener (stick to organic certified organic raw honey
or pure stevia extract
for natural options)
Try prunes, figs or raisins as a cheap and natural sugar boost during your long (45 mins+) runs, workouts.
For a Post Workout replenishing drink, I absolutely love ZICO Coconut Water. It replenishes you without dumping any chemicals into your body.
